Golnar Kat-Rahmani is an iranian artist and art director, who spezializes in political typesetting and multilingual typedesign.
After her studies in Teheran and Berlin she founded the design studio Studio Katrahmani and her own fashion brand G.Kat.Berlin – Fashion Passion Typography. She offers international workshops for poster designing. It is a place for exchange and where one can learn about non latin type. During reaserches she found, that there are no libraries about non latin type. In the courses she combines her skills in bookdesign and posters with her "basic knowledge", as for example knowledge about arabic type. The courses should motivate to question narratives which are provided in the west, like information in mass media about the middle east.
She mentioned the importance of including physical movement into graphic designing. Through learning calligraphy, she started to see the connection between calligraphy and typewriting. The ink on paper makes old come to live. Calligraphy teaches a repetitive and slow workflow.
